The Game That Teaches You How NOT to Get Played
A satirical, educational board game of propaganda, power, and political survival — for ages 14 and up.
Help us get to your table!
Ever watched the news and thought, "How did we get here?" This game might finally answer that question.
Trumpster Fire is a board game about the five-step process historically used to concentrate power into the hands of one person — and how it happens while the rest of us are distracted, divided, and exhausted.
This isn't a game that trashes any politician. The title's a joke, but the lesson is serious.
Trumpster Fire is a satirical board game of power, propaganda, and political survival — and it is unlike anything else on your game shelf. Or, in the store, for that matter. This is a one-of-a-kind game.
Compete to become Supreme Chancellor of Planet Earth, using the same playbook that real authoritarian leaders have used throughout history: establish yourself as a strong, charismatic leader, spread propaganda to discredit opponents and erode democratic systems, sow civil division in your home country, exploit economic and political grievances by blaming a marginalized group, normalize government violence, demand supporters shift loyalty from principal to you personally, bury your secrets, and systematically undermine everyone who stands in your way.
This is not a game of accusations. It is a mirror. By playing even once, you begin to recognize these in real life as strategies within an orchestrated plan. The playbook stops being invisible. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it.
Trumpster Fire is fun, fast, and fiercely competitive. It is also one of the most important conversation-starters you will ever bring to your table. The instruction booklet contains discussion questions for after play.
Everyone starts equal. Everyone wants total power. Roll the die, move around the board, and draw cards that force you to make the same ruthless choices real authoritarian leaders have made while trying to protect your Dirty Little Secrets from your rivals.

Override truth. Shape public perception. Blend facts with engineered rhetoric. These 36 cards let you rewrite the narrative to favor you and tank your enemies. Don't get cocky. One roll of the die could mean you overplayed your hand and it backfires.
Card Example:
Mobilize federal agents to inflict random violence against people who look like they fit your marginalized ethnic group and make negative claims about the victims to justify it.
Roll upon picking up this card
1 = back 2
2 - 3 = stay
4 - 6 = forward by energizing your support base.

Paranoia runs deep. Demand absolute loyalty from your staff, your allies, and even your rivals. A failed loyalty check can set you back — or expose someone else's secret. 18 cards.
Card Example:
You initiate a program to determine who senior civil servants on your security council voted for in your last election, or donated to your campaign, and monitor their social media activity. Those who resign are replaced with verifiable supporters.
Roll upon picking up this card
1-2 = 2 spaces back
3 = stay
4-6 = forward 3

Every aspiring world leader needs a private network. Deals are made, favors are traded, and personal liabilities can be managed, but only if you are ruthless enough to use them. 18 cards.
Card Example:
You find old photos from your island visits. one is of a competitor exploiting / abusing minors. You get it to someone who ensures they appear in the news.
Roll to select opponent.
You roll to send them:
1 - 4 = back 3
5 = back 2
6 = back 1

Kept face-down in front of you at all times, your secrets are your greatest vulnerability. Guard them, weaponize them against your opponents, or weaponize your opponents' secrets against them. There are 36, more than enough trouble for everyone.
Card Example:
Your “aid” bills that passed congress included payoffs to foreign officials at taxpayer expense to cover your involvement in money laundering schemes.
Keep this card as it may be later disclosed as a dirty little secret. If so:
1-3 = back 2
4-6 = stay
Return to deck when used

The Enhanced version of the game, Trumpster Fire Octane, contains this additional set of 18 cards. Extending game play and infusing hope for resurrecting and strengthening democracy, these cards give eliminated players the opportunity to jump back into the fray as candidates championing the tenets of a free, democratic republic.
Card example:
Start a grass roots movement teaching how propaganda works. Get into any senior center, civic group, school, wherever allowed.
Roll for bonus:
1-2 = stay
3-4 = forward 2
5 = forward 3
6 = forward 4
Return this card to deck
The board has six sections representing the progressive stages of an authoritarian takeover: charismatic leader appeal, civil division, exploitation of economic grievance, normalization of political violence, and delegitimization of democratic institutions. Play once and you understand history. Play again and you start to see the present.
Designed for families, adults, classrooms, and civic conversations. Discussion questions included. Play it, talk about it, share it.

Most people living through a fascist takeover have not recognized it while it was happening. The people of Germany were not Nazis. The people of Italy did not know Mussolini would become a dictator. Authoritarian movements rise slowly, then suddenly, cloaked in chaos, inflated rhetoric, and the human tendency to believe it could never happen here.
"It could never happen here"
Does THAT sound familiar?
Trumpster Fire does not point fingers. It teaches patterns. When you play the propaganda cards, demand loyalty, and bury your secrets, you are playing a game while also learning to recognize those moves in the real world, wherever they appear, whoever is making them.
From the Trumpster Fire Instructions
I created Trumpster Fire because I believe understanding how democracy erodes is not a partisan issue. It is a survival skill. This game will start conversations that matter, at tables where families, friends, and students can think critically together. If you keep emotions aside, you can make progress.
I hope it helps you think. I hope it encourages you to talk. And I hope it makes you harder to fool..

We're launching a pre-campaign fundraiser to do this right. The funds from this first round go directly toward:
This round is about something greater than selling you a game. It's about building the movement that gets the game made, a movement that will last hopefully for generations to come.
Founding Supporter: $15 – Print & Play Edition: the complete basic game as a downloadable PDF, formatted for home printing. Cards are sized for standard Avery business card sheets (available where you get your office supplies) with no cutting required. Meeples (playing pieces) also print on the same cards, but will require one cut and a fold each. You will also get your name listed as a Founding Supporter in the final published game.
Democracy Builder: $35 – Everything in Founding Supporter plus the Field Guide PDF (historical deep-dive on all five mechanics) and the Discussion Facilitator's Guide PDF, both ready for civic group use.
Torchbearer: $95 – Everything in the Democracy Builder tier with an invitation to a private online playtest session with game designer Mark Mills, plus a guaranteed first-edition copy of the physical game fully covered at this price! You will receive no additional charges when the full campaign launches and fulfills.
[Sign up below to be notified when this pre-campaign goes live on Kickstarter.]
An honest note from Mark: at small numbers, each physical game actually costs more to produce and ship than this pledge covers. I'm not getting rich and this is expensive. I'm trying to get this game made. Every Torchbearer backer is taking a leap of faith alongside me, and I don't take that lightly. What changes everything is volume. The more Torchbearers to get on board, the more production costs drop and the closer we get to a launch that reaches the people who need this game. Your game will be produced and shipped when the full campaign fulfills. You will not be charged again.
Please reach us at oldorchardpublishingllc@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
It is educational. Trumpster Fire uses satire and real historical parallels to show how authoritarian movements gain power. Over the decades, these techniques and strategies have been used by people in both U.S. political parties, not to mention multiple foreign leaders. So, this game does not intend to promote any political party or candidate. The intent is to promote freedom of speech, discourse, and constructive hope for democracy. Discussion questions included in the game are designed to foster critical thinking, not debate.
Trumpster Fire is recommended for players 14 years and older. It is ideal for families, adults, classroom settings, book clubs, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in civics, media literacy, or political history.
Game length varies by number of players. Most games run 60 to 90 minutes. With 6 players and full discussion, plan for up to 2 hours.
Pre-launch phase: running up to May 15, 2026: During this time, we are finalizing our Kickstarter page, finalizing and testing our PDF Print & Play option, and ensuring all links between social media, this web page, and Kickstarter function smoothly. Everyone signed up for updates will get notified the day of launch.
May 15 through June 5, 2026: First round Kickstarter campaign. As stated above, this campaign will fund everything needed to ensure a quality, play-tested, expertly reviewed game goes to production for the main Kickstarter campaign.
June 5 through July 3, 2026: We at Old Orchard Publishing get very busy. We will ensure all downloadables get to donors. We will be at summer fairs and festivals, gaming stores, and anywhere else we can play this game with people, get their feedback, and hone any refinements. We will have also sent the game for review prior to conclusion of the first-round campaign, and during this window in June, we will secure reviews from those reviewers requiring substantial fees for expert assessment. We will get our main Kickstarter page formatted and ready, updates sent to you wonderful supporters, and extend as much publicity as possible.
July 4 through July 28, 2026: The big event! The Trumpster Fire: Terminal Democracy Resurrection game will get funded with three new tiers, but don’t worry if you’ve already donated! After this campaign, the first round Tier 3 donor orders for the basic game will go in with all of the new donors. The Game Crafter will manufacture and ship all of the basic and expanded versions of the game within about 3 to 4 weeks of the order. New game owners should have their games in-hand sometime around the end of August, 2026.
Our Kickstarter price in the main campaign for the basic game as well as the Tier 3 donation in this round is $95 because of bulk pricing. Once it goes into production, it will be available by print on demand at a price of $99.95. Trumpster Fire Octane, the enhanced version, will be funded in the Kickstarter campaign at $125 and will subsequently retail at $125, minus the add-ons.
The game is rated for ages 14 and up. It contains no graphic violence or adult content., but the complexity of interrelated themes will challenge younger comprehension. It does contain political satire and mature themes including propaganda, political manipulation, and historical references to authoritarian movements. It is not appropriate for young children nor are they likely to find it interesting.
Trumpster Fire is made in the United States of America and published by Old Orchard Publishing, LLC. Our manufacturer and supplier is The Game Crafter in Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
